Opens its 8th store in the city in the affluent locality of Abhiramapuram
Chennai, April 11, 2008: Odyssey, India’s premier leisure store chain today opened its 8th store in Chennai and the 26th store in its chain.
Padmashree Thota Tharrani, renowned Art Director & Artist inaugurated the store. He has worked on numerous prestigious projects in Indian Film Industry. He is the recipient of many awards including the National Award for Best Art Direction, which he won twice in 1989 & 1997. He was awarded the ‘Padmashree’ in the year 2001. His major works include Sultan: The Warrior (2008); Sivaji (2007); Chandramukhi (2007); Athadu (2005); Jism (2003); Baba (2002); Padayappa (1999); Jeans (1998); Indian (1996); Anjali (1990); Shiva (1989); Subhalekha (1982)
Mr T S Ashwin, Managing Director, Odyssey India Ltd, speaking on the occasion said, ''Since our first store in 1995 in Adyar, Chennai; Odyssey has always been a neighborhood leisure store located in well defined catchments in various cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Coimbatore, Salem and Kozhikode amongst others.''
''Our last stand alone regular format store in Chennai was in April 2005, post which we have been concentrating on expanding in cities other Chennai. We recently opened two express stores in the Wipro Campus, Sholinganallur and at The Presidency Club.''
He added, ''This store in Abhiramapuram is in line with our positioning of being a neighborhood leisure store chain. We have identified residential suburbs in the city, where we would open our stores this year across varied regular & express formats.''
He also added, ''Abhiramapuram is a perfect fit for a neighborhood store with upper middle class & high income group settled in the 3-4 km radius. With the opening of our store in this locality, consumers will have the convenience of shopping closer home for all their leisure needs.''
The 'Odyssey Express' store on St. Mary's Road is spread over 3,000 sq ft and has a good range of books, music, movies, stationery, cards, toys and gifts.
The store stocks in excess of 15,000 books on subjects ranging from popular fiction, non-fiction, computing, self-help, health & fitness, business & management, food & drink, and regional books. Music range in the international to indi-pop to regional music and in Movies from classics to contemporary is part of the offering.
Children’s books include activity books, picture books, young fiction, reference books, and young classics, with toys range include board games, puzzles, activity games, soft toys, scale models, action figures and branded toys from Mattel, Funskool, PNP.
The stationery section displays brands including Sheaffer, Cross, Parker, Reynolds, Pidilite, Camlin, Nightingale and BILT and ITC Expressions. The store also stocks fragrances & perfumes under international brands like Jovan, Adidas, David Off, and David Beckham amongst others.
Mr. Ashwin commenting on the products, said, ''Express stores are meant for smaller catchments & immediate needs across our products categories. While the range might be limited to new tittles & best sellers, customers with specific requirement will have the facility of ordering the same through the store, which will be serviced by our regional team.''
