Kolkata, July 20, 2008: Odyssey, India's premier leisure store opened its first store in Kolkata and the 31st store in the chain, today. The store located on the Prince Anwar Shah Road is 28286 sq. ft, spread over three floors and is the largest Odyssey store in the country. The store was inaugurated by the much awarded Bangla author, Bani Banu who at this occasion launched the popular children’s book 'Abol Tabol' by Sukumar Ray.
Ashwin TS, Managing Director, Odyssey India Ltd. said, 'With the Kolkata store launch, Odyssey is making inroads into the literary capital of the country. Kolkata is one of the important markets for us and we would expand within city shortly with more stores in other catchments.'

The store will stock a wide range of books on subjects ranging from popular fiction, non-fiction, computing, self-help, health & fitness, business & management, food & drink, travel, apart from coffee table books in genre of art & architecture, leisure etc. In all one can find over 60,000 book titles at this store.
There is a large section for stationery with brands like Sheaffer, Cross, Parker, Pentel, and ITC Expressions on display. A large collection of Music titles from international to indi-pop and in Movies from classics to contemporary is part of the offering. The store also stocks the Apple iPod, Worldspace and other digital accessories. The store is also a gamer’s paradise as it stocks an extensive range of multimedia titles and accessories including PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 gaming consoles.
There are a lot of products targeted at the specific needs of kids & young adult’s like activity books, young fiction, reference books, young classics, board games, puzzles, activity games, soft toys, scale models, action figures and branded toys from Mattel, and Funskool. Besides, Strollers, Walkers, Ride-on Bikes, high chairs and cycle prams are also being introduced.
The store also has a Candy Corner with candies from all over the world in different shapes, sizes & flavors. Customers can buy these in lots of 50gms each.
Gifts including decoratives, figurines, crockery, glassware, leather accessories, fragrance, jewellery, luxury tableware from Art d nox and bone china can also be found at this store. Exquisite timewear brands like Calvin Klein, Esprit, DKNY, Casio and Fossils etc…are part of the offering. Other lifestyle products Satyapaul’s Tie's, Adamis, Catalyst, Travel Blue, Case logic are also available at the Odyssey Store.
Keeping with the promise of providing unhurried shopping experience, the store has a designated play area, seating area in books section and listening consoles in music section. 'Very shortly, we would introduce a café within the store', added Ashwin.
Odyssey also has some exciting offers as part of their launch celebrations. Exquisite perfumes like Cindy Crawford, Bvlgari would be offered at 30% off, while there's a free Barbie doll waiting to be taken home for customers who buy a Barbie doll worth over Rs. 499. Odyssey known for its events, is organizing many interesting events throughout July and August. These include performances by Jazz percussionist, Bickram Ghosh on the launch day, Bengali bands 'Kaya' and 'Sada Kalo', book reading session by Kunal Basu, author of best-selling titles including the run away success, 'Japanese Wife' on August 1st. Apart from these, there would be a whole host events for the tiny tots which include workshops, competitions, book reading sessions etc…
